The Trust was created to provide funds for charitable purposes, with emphasis on the Isle of Bute and west coast of Scotland. Typically, donations are made towards Community, Medical, Youth and Heath & Awareness projects.

Not-for-profit community projects can apply for up to 50% of the costs of an electricity connection within the Scottish Hydro-Electric Distribution area, particularly those in rural areas.
