The organisation is a grant making charity who operates in the City of Edinburgh and the Lothians.The organisation's purposes are: 4.1 The prevention or relief of poverty 4.2 The relief of those in need 4.3 The provision of support whether by way of financial assistance, accommodation, advice or otherwise to individuals or groups of individuals living in the area who, by reason of health, physical or mental disability or otherwise, are in necessitous circumstances; 4.4 The provision of assistance whether financial or otherwise to other charitable organisations operating in the area whose purpose are in the opinion of the Trustees similar to those outlined in subclauses 4.1,4.2 and 4.3 above.

Grants are available to smaller recognised charities in the Edinburgh and Lothian area whose aims and objectives are to provide social welfare. Priority will be given to organisations which combat inequalities and/or promote voluntary action.
