Launched in 1950, The Scottish Music Centre is Scotland's national information hub, music archive and resource for the music sector and the general public. Our remit is to provide information on Scotland's music, to promote it nationally & internationally, to support and provide services to musicians, composers, writers and performers, and to widen young people's access to and participation in music.Over the last 10 years the centre has significantly increased its provision for community music projects, using music as a way of engaging some of the most vulnerable young people in Scotland. The projects include:• MusicPlus-A mentoring project for young people aged 14-19 across Scotland offering one to one advice and tuition from performance to business skills.• Hit The Road- A national touring project offering young people their first chance to participate in a professionally run tour.• Musicares- A project specifically targeting care experienced young people across Scotland.• Ignite- A project showcasing the best new talent in Scotland to the music industry.The projects work in the informal sector outside of school hours to reach young people who may not normally have access to music provision, working with key organisations and partners in the community to ensure there are no barriers to participation. We use music as a diversionary activity to raise the skills and confidence of our young people with a carefully selected team of tutors that number over 200 across Scotland.

YMI - Training and Continuing Professional Development Fund
The fund supports individuals, organisations and networks who work outwith school settings to undertake training and continuing professional development that will strengthen youth music in Scotland for the benefit of young people.
