Details

The Economic Development Grant Scheme aims to stimulate local economic activity by supporting individuals, businesses and organisations to turn ideas into commercial reality.

Financial assistance is provided to assist applicants with the costs related to developing projects, where these projects meet key eligibility criteria and will result in extensive local benefits.

Priority outcomes are:

Who can apply

Businesses, including sole traders, partnerships, limited liability partnerships and limited companies, can apply for grant funding to start up or grow businesses in Shetland. Businesses must meet the UK Government definition of a small to medium sized enterprise (SME). Social enterprises and community groups may also be eligible. Voluntary and community organisations are eligible to apply to fund development projects which can demonstrate economic benefits to the local community. Such organisations must be Shetland-based with an open constitution or similar set of rules that clearly define the organisation's aims, objectives and procedures.

Enquiries can be submitted at any time.

How to apply

In the first instance, applicants should contact the Council's Economic Development Service to discuss their project, which can be done by submitting the enquiry form on the Council website. Once the team is satisfied in principle that the project meets the eligibility criteria, the applicant will be invited to submit a full grant application form.
