The Teacher Development Fund supports delivery of effective and sustainable arts-based teaching and learning opportunities in the primary classroom, and aims to embed learning through the arts in the curriculum. It does this by supporting teachers and school leaders to develop the necessary skills, knowledge, confidence and experience in arts-based teaching approaches. The fund focuses on how arts-based approaches can build equity in schools so that pupils who experience systemic inequity can access and make progress in their learning. All partnerships must be committed to anti-racism. The fund welcomes a range of applications and is particularly interested in those which demonstrate strengths in: supporting pupils experiencing disadvantage or systemic inequity; embedding learning through the arts in the curriculum; and strong, equitable partnerships between arts/cultural organisations and schools. Projects should last for two academic years and must involve between six and ten schools.

Who can apply

Lead applicants can be: Charities, community organisations, social enterprises and not-for-profits companies active in the arts; Primary schools and academies operating in the state sector.

When to apply

The fund runs on an annual cycle. The Stage 1 (First Stage Application) deadline for the current round is 12 noon on Wednesday 11 November 2026. Applicants will be notified of the outcome before 10 December 2026. Those invited to Stage 2 must submit a full application by 12 noon on Wednesday 20 January 2027, with final decisions expected by the end of March 2027.

How to apply

There is a two-stage application process. Submit a brief first stage application online via the Foundation website. If invited, you will be contacted by one of their Grant Managers and asked to submit a full application.
