Historic Environment Grants Programme
Details
The Historic Environment Grants Programme can support a wide range of projects which clearly relate to and will benefit Scotland’s historic environment.
Projects that can be supported through the programme should be focussed on an aspect of Scotland's historic environment, from the tangible (e.g. historic buildings, ancient monuments and archaeology, designed or cultural landscapes and historic gardens and battlefields) to the intangible (e.g. historic environment skills, stories and traditions).
Full criteria and eligibility guidance can be found on the Historic Environment Scotland website.

Who can apply
Formally constituted not-for-profit organisations with clear governance and their own bank account, such as charities, Community Interest Companies, local authorities and religious bodies, as well as partnerships led by a not-for-profit organisation. Private owners and commercial organisations can also apply, but are unlikely to be prioritised unless the public benefits clearly and significantly outweigh private gain. Applicants with a track record of sound financial management are preferred.
When to apply
Expressions of interest for all three streams are open all year. Deadlines for final applications are:
- Express Grants: open all year
- Small Grants: 30 April, 31 August, 31 December
- Large Grants: 30 June, 31 October, 28/29 February
How to apply
Applicants first submit an expression of interest through the funder's online Grants Portal, where an account must be registered. If the expression of interest is approved, the applicant is invited to complete and submit a full application asking for more detailed information about the project. Approval of an expression of interest does not guarantee a grant.
