The trust reviews its policy every two years - currently the major categories supported are:
- The advancement of the arts, heritage and culture.
- The provision of recreational facilities, or the organisation of recreational facilities, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities are primarily intended.
- The relief of those in need by reason of age, ill-health and disability.

Who can apply
The beneficial area is United Kingdom-wide, but preference is given to organisations in Scotland. Grants are normally made only to a recognised Scottish Charity or a recognised charity outside Scotland.
When to apply
The deadlines for applications are 30 April (for the meeting in May) and 31 October (for the meeting in November).

The application form and guidance can be downloaded from the Trust's website. There is a separate simplified Grant Form (Small Grants) for grants under £500.
