The Michael Tippett Musical Foundation
Details
They are a small Foundation with funds from the royalties generated by performances, broadcasts and publication of the works of composer Michael Tippett.
The two objectives are:
- to award grants to support the development of group music-making especially involving young people, with composing central to the project
- to support the performance or recording of works by Michael Tippett
They will fund:
- projects that support group music making, especially those that involve young people in the process of composing and the development of creative ideas.
- the Trustees wish to see composing as central to projects put forward for support. These can include applications from organisations for group projects working with young composers, perhaps at postgraduate or early professional level; the Foundation is looking for innovative ways in which young composers can develop their talents and experience via group musical activity. Composing competitions are not considered as priority projects.
- Projects might be first-time initiatives or the development of existing projects and must be based in the UK.
For 2026 the Trustees welcome applications for grants towards projects that support group music-making, especially those that involve young people in the process of composing and the development of creative ideas.

Who can apply
Organisations undertaking creative musical activity in line with the eligibility criteria.
When to apply
The Trustees normally hold one meeting a year, in the autumn.
The 2026 deadline was midnight on 30 September. Projects for consideration should not start earlier than January 2027.
How to apply
Applications are required in electronic format only, with a short covering email, attached project description of max length 2 single A4 pages, plus single page project budget. Full details of what to include are available on the funder website.
