They are a small Foundation with funds from the royalties generated by performances, broadcasts and publication of the works of composer Michael Tippett.

The two objectives are:

• to award grants to support the development of group music-making especially involving young people, with composing central to the project
• to support the performance or recording of works by Michael Tippett

For 2026 the Trustees welcome applications for grants towards projects that support group music-making, especially those that involve young people in the process of composing and the development of creative ideas.

Who can apply

The Michael Tippett Musical Foundation is looking to award grants to support young musicians and composers, new music and music education initiatives. WHAT THEY MIGHT SUPPORT

• Our single priority is for projects that support group music making, especially those that involve young people in the process of composing and the development of creative ideas.
• Because of our link with a major composer the Trustees wish to see composing as central to projects put forward for support. These can include applications from organisations for group projects working with young composers, perhaps at postgraduate or early professional level; we are looking for innovative ways in which young composers can develop their talents and experience via group musical activity. Composing competitions are not considered as priority projects.
• Grants awarded will be made towards creative musical activity, not instruments or equipment. Projects might be first-time initiatives or the development of existing projects and must be based in the UK.

When to apply

The Trustees normally hold one meeting a year, in the autumn.

The deadline for applications is midnight on 30 September 2026. Projects for consideration should not start earlier than January 2027.
