The Trustees prefer applications to fall into one of the five core categories below, although applications that fall outside these will be considered in exceptional circumstances:
- Arts and Heritage
- Economic or social disadvantage
- Education
- Environment
- Health
There are no focus areas within the categories of Arts and Heritage, Education or Environment.
Applications for the Health category, must have a focus on one of the following:
- programmes and activities that aim to support, maintain and improve mental health in any demographic
- health care for older people
Applications for the Social or Economic Disadvantage category, must have a focus on one of the following:
- disadvantaged children
- housing and homeless people

Charities registered in any part of the United Kingdom.
- Minimum annual income:
- £50,000
When to apply
Applications can be made at any time. Applications are normally considered according to the timescales shown:
- 16 January - 11 April (reviewed mid-June for decisions early July)
- 16 April - 11 July (reviewed mid-September for decisions early October)
- 16 July - 11 October (reviewed mid-December for decisions early January)
- 16 October - 11 January (reviewed mid-March for decisions early April)
Applicants are encouraged to submit applications early in the application period to allow more time for their review.
