Baring Foundation - Strengthening Civil Society Programme

Details

In this round of funding, the Baring Foundation is seeking to fund activity which uses the law to:

  • clarify or challenge legislation which disproportionately criminalises racialised people;
  • address the harms caused by police in schools; and
  • address the clampdown on activism in relation to issues of racial injustice (addressing the criminalisation of free speech and protest).

Examples of the type of work they anticipate funding under this call include (but are not limited to):

  • Undertaking legal research to better understand the impact of police presence in schools;
  • Challenging public body policy and practice in relation to the right to protest through Judicial Review;
  • Implementation activities for wins already achieved through legal action.

They encourage collaborative working when using the law to achieve social change and have found this to be crucial to success. If you are working with other organisations, they expect you to clearly outline the approach to this collaboration and the roles each organisation will have in the work.
