Supports the advancement of education and public participation in sport by assisting individuals to participate in physical outdoor activities in Scotland and other countries, assisting individuals to learn about the history and culture of Scotland and other countries, assisting individuals with training in outdoor skills.

Various grants are available with varying amounts and criteria. Preference will be given to individuals who will use their training to help or train others, for example members of mountain rescue teams or volunteers in clubs and organisations.

Who can apply

Grants are available for individuals (skills training and expeditions) and small groups (expeditions only). Applicants should be resident in Scotland and training courses should be carried out in Scotland.

When to apply

Apply at any time. They consider applications twice a year, in March (for summer expeditions) and October (for winter expeditions). The next deadline for summer 2026 trip applications will be in March 2026.
