Funding for short breaks for disabled children and young people and their carers

Shared Care Scotland’s Better Breaks programme has reopened for applications. The programme provides 12-month grants to third sector organisations to develop and deliver short breaks projects and services for disabled children and young people (aged 20 and under), and their  carers (adult and/or young carers).

Short breaks projects and activities can include breaks away (including overnight stays and residential breaks), days out, and/or shorter sessions (including regular activities). Breaks should:

  • increase opportunities for disabled children and young people to engage in activities they enjoy
  • give carers a break from their caring role
  • improve wellbeing for all involved.

Who can apply

This funding is for third sector (voluntary organisations) operating in Scotland. You do not have to be a registered charity to apply.

For more information on who can apply and what the programme can fund, see the Guidance for Applicants.
