The Veterans’ Foundation provides grants to eligible organisations that provide assistance to serving and former members of the armed forces community, operational qualified seafarers and their immediate families.

The range of charities and organisations supported is extensive and covers every aspect of social care and includes but is not limited to: homelessness, employability, financial disadvantage, disability, welfare issues, mental health, marriage guidance, care during old age and confidence building.

Who can apply

Registered charities, community interest companies and other organisations conducting charitable activity that support the armed forces community may apply. This includes organisations supporting serving personnel, veterans, operationally qualified seafarers (such as Merchant Navy veterans who have served on operations) and their immediate families who are in need. Start-ups may apply if they can provide a competent business case. The Veterans' Foundation primarily supports low and medium-wealth charities.

When to apply

• Small grants: this is a rolling programme with no specific closing date.
• Standard and Salary grants: applications are currently accepted on a rolling basis as a trial, with no application deadlines.
• Major grants: applications are closed for the current year.

Organisations with an existing grant award, or whose application was unsuccessful, must wait a set period before reapplying.

How to apply

Applicants complete an online eligibility checker on the Veterans' Foundation's website. If eligible, they are signposted to the relevant application form for the funding programme. Guidance and application forms differ for each programme, and applicants should read the relevant grant guidance and the funder's 'What We Will Not Fund' document before applying.
