Edinburgh Community Solar Cooperative - Community Fund
Details
Edinburgh Community Solar Co-operative raises capital from the public to place solar panel installations on City of Edinburgh Council buildings (schools, leisure centres and other council owned buildings). As well as paying annual returns to investors, they allocate part of their profits to community causes that benefit the people of Edinburgh.
This year, they have 2 strands of funding available:
- Strand 1: Small-scale solar panel installation to their premises
- Strand 2: Equipment, activities, education and environmental building adaptations
Grants are now available for community-focused organisations in Edinburgh that wish to:
- install small-scale solar panels to their premises (strand 1)
- purchase equipment (strand 2)
- provide additional activities (strand 2)
- provide education to reduce carbon (strand 2)
- make environmental improvements to their buildings (strand 2)
They have a particular focus on:
- Children and young people
- Older people (55+)
- The environment and sustainability
- Outdoor education
- Sports clubs

Who can apply
Schools and Leisure Centres in Edinburgh. Registered charities or community organisations (with a bank account) operating within Edinburgh. You must have a dedicated bank account.
In addition, for Strand 1 applicant organisations need to own their own community building or demonstrate that they have a lease for at least 10 years on their building.

How to apply
Download the application from the Fund website and submit via email to the address provided.
For Strand 1: Prior to the application deadline, applicants to this strand of funding will need to demonstrate that they have engaged with Business Energy Scotland (or an alternative professional provider) to verify that solar panels are suitable for the site and to ensure that independent advice has been taken.
