The Edinburgh Communities Climate Action Network (ECCAN) offers funding through its Greenlight Fund to support community-led climate action projects across Edinburgh.

The fund supports practical, local projects that help communities respond to the climate crisis. This includes projects that reduce environmental impact, support biodiversity, build resilience to climate change, raise awareness, and bring people together to take action.

Priority is given to youth-led projects, initiatives that widen access and participation, and projects focused on climate adaptation and resilience. Collaborative projects involving multiple community organisations are encouraged.

Who can apply

Greenlight funds local not-for-profit, community-led organisations delivering climate action projects within the City of Edinburgh.

Eligible applicants include:

• Community groups (with or without a constitution)
• Registered charities
• Social enterprises and non-profits
• Community Interest Companies (CICs)
• Community Benefit Societies (CBSs)

Individuals can apply on behalf of informal groups, but must have a partner organisation with a bank account to receive funds.

Applicants must be members of ECCAN (membership is free).

When to apply

Applications open annually. Currently closed.

Smaller grants are assessed on a rolling basis across multiple decision points. Larger grants have a fixed application deadline followed by a community voting period. Please apply as soon as possible for grants of £5,001 - £20,000.
