Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation - Small Change Big Difference Fund

Details

Through the Small Change Big Difference Fund, Yorkshire Building Society trustees consider nominations from members and colleagues to charities providing urgent support or relief to those experiencing financial hardship, to enable them to address immediate needs.

Charity funding themes include (but are not limited to) those providing:

  • Debt advice or financial support.
  • Food / energy / baby banks providing essential living supplies.
  • Support for rough sleepers and individuals without a secure home.
  • Crisis support for survivors of abuse.
  • Community centres based in areas of high deprivation (as defined by the Indices of Multiple Deprivation).

Priority will be given to the following:

  • Charities whose aims are a strong fit with the Charitable Foundation’s priorities to provide urgent support or relief to those experiencing financial hardship. For example: foodbanks, debt advice charities and support for those without a secure home.
  • Charities that are based in the top 20% of deprived areas in the UK.
  • Charities that have an annual income turnover of less than £100,000.

Who can apply

UK registered charities that are nominated by a Yorkshire Building Society member or colleague. Charities must:

  • be registered with the Charity Commission, the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland or the Scottish Charity Regulator
  • use the funding to provide urgent support or relief to those experiencing financial hardship, e.g. foodbanks, debt advice charities and support for those without a secure home
  • have beneficiaries in the UK
  • have submitted annual returns on time to the relevant charity regulator

They particularly welcome nominations for charities working in areas of deprivation and charities with an income turnover of less than £100,000.

When to apply

Nominations are accepted on an ongoing basis and reviewed quarterly by trustees, with deadlines at the end of March, June, September and December each year. Decisions are made in the second month after each quarter's deadline.

How to apply

Charities cannot apply directly; they must be nominated by a Yorkshire Building Society member or colleague. Nominations are made through an online form available via the funder's website, and those unable to nominate online can visit their nearest branch.
